Welcome

The Adoption Process

Thinking of adding a new family member? Our adoption process is designed to place our Lucky Dogs and Cats with loving homes ensuring you and your new pet are a good fit! No need to have a particular animal in mind while starting the process - we are excited to pre-approve you following the steps below so when the right fit comes along - you’ll be ready!

Step 1

Complete a Dog or Cat Adoption Questionnaire at the link below. If you are interested in applying for a specific animal on the website, please be sure to list their names on your questionnaire. Please note that submitting an application is the first step in our process and does not guarantee adoption of a particular dog or cat. Applicants must be 21 years of age to adopt. Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions!

Step 2

You will be contacted via email by a Volunteer Lucky Dog Animal Rescue Adoption Coordinator or Screener within 24-48 hours of submitting your questionnaire. They will then schedule an initial phone screening to further discuss your needs, preferences, and lifestyle as you look for a new family member.

Step 3

Your Adoption Coordinator or Screener will also conduct any required checks, including a vet check to ensure your pets are up to date on their medical needs, a landlord check if you rent, and a home visit - during which a knowledgeable volunteer will meet with all residents of your home to identify any risks or items to monitor when your new pet arrives and ensure that everyone is ready to welcome them home!

Step 4

Following steps 1-3, you will either be approved to adopt the dog or cat you are interested in or Pre-Approved and Matched with some options to choose from! You can view the list of current animals online, attend one of our weekly Adoption Events to meet our pets, or you can work with your Adoption Coordinator to set up a meeting at a convenient time. If we don’t have the breed or size you are looking for, we can work with our shelter partners to find one.

Step 5

If you are having trouble finding the right fit - ask your Coordinator or Screener about Matchmaking.
